The Porkestra started life as a spontaneous first birthday party blow for the China Pig Club, and evolved/mutated through two more birthdays
into (inevitably) the Porkestra.
A basic lineup of three trumpets, five saxophones, three trombones, occasional tuba, double bass & drums was originally intended to have
two guitarists, but the second somehow never materialised.
Musicians involved over the years included Jim Dvorak, Claude Deppa, Ian Smith, Roland Ramanan, Kevin Davey, (trumpets),
Alan Wilkinson, Clive York, John Grieve, Ntshuks Bonga, John Telfer, Caroline Kraabel, Gary Curzon, (saxophones),
Donald Manson, Dave Jago, Paul Taylor, Roland Bates, Hilary Jeffery, Alan Tomlinson, Nick Evans, (trombones),
Oren Marshall, Arun Jolly, (tubas), Roberto Ballatella, Marcio Mattos, Julia Doyle (double bass),
Dave Fowler, Richard Beard, Steve Noble, and Eric Peachey (drums).
A skeletal musical policy was to improvise more or less freely, collectively, within the framework of original compositions
by members of the group. Whilst many of the compositions were my own, three others, from Caroline Kraabel, Roland Ramanan,
and Hilary Jeffrey made it into the recorded archives! I am grateful for these contributions to history!
In the mists of time, and the incomprehensibility of announced credits at the gigs, many details of who played on which gigs,
and who played solos on which tunes, are difficult to divine! I have done my best in researching recording notes, photos,
garbled announcements & even more garbled memories to get it approximately right. My apologies for any inaccuracies & omissions.
Please feel free to contact me with any corrections needed!
